sports injury compensation claim

If you have an accident whilst playing or watching sport, which was not your fault, then you may be entitled to make a sports injury compensation claim. It is not only professional sports people that are entitled to claim compensation when they are injured whilst taking part in a sporting activity. There is always some degree of risk with playing any type of sport and if your sports injury occurs after you have simply tripped or fallen for no reason, you would not be entitled to make a sports injury compensation claim. You would also not be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim if your personal injury was caused as a result of a tackle from another player.

If however, some of the equipment you were provided to use was faulty or the playing surface was badly maintained and this caused your accident, then you would be able to make a personal injury claim for compensation. You would also be entitled to make a claim as a spectator if the public viewing area was unsafe and caused your accident. If you or a member of your family is suffering or has suffered from a sports related injury caused by an accident whilst watching or playing sport, Accident Injury Line can help you claim compensation.

Who can claim for a sport injury?

Injuries arising out of the common physicality of contact or active sports, or from genuine errors in their own judgement or that of other players, would not usually be considered compensatable. In most sporting venues, cases, schools and clubs will have insurance in place to cover such situations as a sports injury claim.

Sporting event spectator injuries

Any person attending a sporting occasion as a spectator should be able to do so as safely and as reasonably possible. Those holding the event should ensure that the premises comply with health and safety requirements and that the spectators are situated in an appropriate place. Any barriers or railings in place to protect spectators or direct them should also be in good condition, secure and properly fixed into place. If seating or shelter is provided this should be safe, sturdy and well maintained. There should be adequate lighting where necessary and warning signs displayed in respect of any potential dangers. Those holding a sporting event should carry out appropriate risk assessments and implement crowd control measures. If these basic safety measures are not adhered to and someone suffers an injury as a result, it is likely that they will be able to make a sports injury compensation claim.
